Today our K–4 students and staff had an incredible time at our Touch-a-Truck event! Students had the opportunity to explore a variety of vehicles up close and learn how they’re used in different careers.
From the beautiful weather to the amazing vehicles and engaging presenters, it truly was a perfect day!
We are so thankful for the community members, organizations, and parents who volunteered their time to make this event such a success.
A huge round of applause to GHFD, Galesburg Life Flight, Woodford County Sheriff’s Department, Early Bird Grain & Feed, Ameren, GFL, Bully’s Tree Service, Kuna Foods, Nussbaum Trucking, Metamora Motors, EPPD, and the Village of Germantown Hills for their support—and to Tom’s Travelin’ Coffee for keeping our staff energized!
We’re already looking forward to our next Touch-a-Truck event in Spring 2028!

7th/8th grade and 6th grade band students had a zoom call with composer Scratch Eden yesterday in rehearsal. It was a great opportunity to perform his music for him and get some insight into his motivations and thoughts as a professional composer.

Our K–4 students recently wrapped up an incredible canned food drive, collecting an amazing 1,381 cans to support those in need in our community. The effort showed what can happen when our students work together for a great cause.

A special congratulations to our 2nd grade students, who brought in the most cans with an impressive 386 cans collected! 4th grade was close behind with 379 cans, making it a very exciting and close competition.

One of the most special moments of the drive was watching our kindergarten students help load the cans onto the truck—literally can by can!

We are so proud of all of our students and families who contributed. Thank you for helping make a difference! 💙

Our Pop Tab Challenge is still going strong, and we need your help to reach our goal of 300,000 pop tabs!

So far, we’ve collected about 238,000 tabs—that’s amazing—but we still have a little way to go. Every tab counts, and together we can make a big difference!

Here’s the plan:

Keep collecting those tabs from soda, canned drinks, or other aluminum cans.

Send them to school by May 1st.

Watch our total climb as we get closer to 300,000!

Not only is this a fun challenge, but it’s also a great way for students and families to give back and support our community. Let’s see if we can smash our goal together! 💪

Thank you for helping us reach new heights—every tab brings us closer!

Thank you,

GHMS Student Council

4th grade reading students have been working hard to prepare for their ‘Who Was’ podcasts!🎙️🎧 Students read a biography with their book club, and then split up to create a podcast episode in which an interviewer questioned the influential person students read about.

🌟Here are some moments from the final filming of Mrs. Harvey’s reading classes including shots from “Escaping North” with Harriet Tubman, “The Tallchief Telling” with Maria Tallchief, “The Best John-tastic Questions” with JFK, “Science Sparks” with Marie Curie, “Podcast with Nikola” with Nikola Tesla, and “Racing with the Record Making Man” with Jesse Owens.

Today our K–4 students are rocking their socks in celebration of World Down Syndrome Day! This special day is recognized on March 21st (3/21) to represent the three copies of the 21st chromosome that individuals with Down Syndrome have.

Throughout the week, students learned about Down Syndrome and were inspired by stories of individuals with Down Syndrome and their many accomplishments. Students also had the opportunity to participate in our “Rock Your Socks” coloring contest!

This morning, Anni and Jax took over Fun Friday to announce our grade-level winners. Thank you to everyone who participated—it was a very close contest! Congratulations to this year’s winners!

And remember, our friends with Down Syndrome are just like you and me—they play, laugh, learn, and shine in their own unique ways every day!
